He was born in Kansas City, but moved to Hastings, Minnesota when he was four years old. He attended Hastings High School, where he excelled in basketball. His height was a big advantage for him, and his skills won him a scholarship to Montana State University. He graduated with dual bachelor’s degrees in theater and media arts.

After graduation, he became the radio commentator for the Savannah Spirits of the CBA. This was followed by his first television job, at KCBA in Salinas, California. He was soon spotted by ESPN, and became the anchor of SportsCenter. He also created popular segments like “Your Moment of Zen” and “Five Questions.”

In 1996, Kilborn was hired by Comedy Central to host the new news-parody program, The Daily Show. He was a hit with viewers, and was nominated for a CableACE Award for Outstanding Entertainment Host. He introduced several popular features to the show, including the “5 Questions,” which were later adapted for other programs.

Despite the success of the show, Kilborn decided to leave in 2004. He cited that the demands of the show were too great, and felt that it was time to move on. He continued to make guest appearances on other shows, and also made a few movies.

Craig Kilborn has a son named Sheppard and is married to Erin O’Brien. He is an avid sports fan and follows the Minnesota Timberwolves and Philadelphia 76ers. He is also a big basketball player and has been a member of the Northside Magicians, an all-star team in Minneapolis.
