The name Jeffrey Dampier conjures up images of a millionaire and his two sisters who received his generous helpings. In reality, Dampier was a security guard by trade. He is also a graduate of Mississippi State University and played professional basketball for the Atlanta Hawks, Golden State Warriors and Dallas Mavericks. His career has spanned 987 games and counting. It is not surprising that Dampier’s net worth has been estimated at a tidy sum.
As a youngster, Dampier grew up on the Chicago West Side. He went on to attend Mississippi State University where he helped the Bulldogs to the NCAA Final Four. After leaving Mississippi, he joined the Indiana Pacers, Dallas Mavericks and Golden State Warriors. A few years later, he made the leap to the National Basketball Association (NBA) where he helped the Golden State Warriors win the NBA championship.
He then went on to play professional basketball in the NBA for the Dallas Mavericks, Golden State Warriors and the Miami Heat. He averages 7.4 points per game and 1.4 blocks. His biggest claim to fame, though, was his starring role in the 2001 NBA playoffs when he led the Miami Heat to a victory over the mighty Houston Rockets.
Not long after he became a household name, Dampier and his wife decided it was time to call it a day. One of their reasons was that they were having an affair with each other. That would be the last they would see each other for the next six years. And, they didn’t know it at the time, but their daughter was already pregnant with their third child. At the time, they were not the only ones who were seeing each other.
Despite his wife’s complaints, he continued to give his two sisters a helping hand as well as a swag bag full of gifts and trinkets. Of course, he was also known to be a very generous philanthropist, so much so that one of his sisters complained about being “almost bankrupt” after he spent all her hard earned money on a new car.
While he may have lost his virgins, he still holds an impressive net worth of about $1.5 billion. Most of his money is in the sports world, but he also owns an upscale gourmet popcorn shop in the Channelside entertainment district of Tampa. So, while you may not have the opportunity to taste one of his gourmet creations, at least you can enjoy the taste of his ilk in your own home. Having a name like Dampier on your door could make for an interesting conversation, but you’ll have to keep your guard up.
